3 SUMMER HOUSE PLANT CARE TIPS

3 SUMMER HOUSE PLANT CARE TIPS

So your plants can have the best summer ever!

Who doesn't like summer?! It's the time of year we want to make the most of. Hot days, beach, holidays… How wonderful!

With the change of season from Spring to Summer, the days get longer, and with more hours of light, the temperature increases, and consequently, the air becomes drier.

With these changes, the needs of your plants also vary. Even indoors, plants are affected by outdoor conditions, like light, temperature, and air humidity.

Adjust your routines to ensure your plants have the best summer ever!

1. Let's talk about light.

Longer days. More hours of light. The sun's rays are more intense. If you have your plants very close to the windows, especially in spaces facing south or west, we advise you to move them back a little in the room or to draw a curtain to filter the light.

Indoor plants are, for the most part, from tropical forests where the light always arrives indirectly and is filtered through the canopies of large trees. Try to mimic this environment.

You can also take the opportunity to redecorate your home. If you have a room in the North where you would like to have plants, but it is difficult to keep them during the winter due to the lack of light, this could be the opportunity.

2. Second and no less important: Let's talk about watering and temperature.

Now that you've found the perfect place for your plants' summer season, you'll also have to pay attention to the temperature and, consequently, the watering.

At this time of year, your plants are at their peak growing season, so they will consume more water. Furthermore, the high temperature also makes the water present in the potting soil more easily evaporate.

We advise you to pay more attention to your plants on hotter days and to check more often if the potting soil is dry.

You can spread our Soil Topper Natural Mulch on the surface of the potting soil to keep the humidity inside for a longer period of time. And you will definitely have to water more often but don't forget to always get your finger dirty before watering.

3. And last but not least: Let's talk about the air humidity.

Don't confuse brown tips on the leaves of your plants with a lack of water in the potting soil. The potting soil may be moist, but the air is too dry.

Remember that your plants come from the tropics, where air humidity is always very high. Try to mimic this environment by grouping your plants and creating a microclimate favorable to increase humidity.

You can spread some bowls with water next to them or place pebbles or expanded clay in a dish with water underneath the potted plant. This way, you increase evaporation around the plant without constantly wetting its roots (to prevent them from rotting).

Use our Plant Food Organic Liquid Fertiliser before periods of rapid and sharp temperature fluctuations, typically in transition between seasons, or in situations of rapid artificial cooling at home on hotter days.

In these situations, Plant Food Organic Liquid Fertiliser application can be increased to 2 to 3 days before the onset of events that are expected to be stressful for the plants.
